Toronto, ON – The Honourable Stéphane
Dion, Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, and Senator Marie-P. Poulin,
President of the Liberal Party of Canada, at the request of the Willowdale
Federal Liberal Riding Association executive, today announced the appointment of
Martha Hall Findlay as the Liberal candidate in the federal riding of Willowdale.
“I am very excited that we have found a place that matches Martha’s Toronto
roots,” said Stéphane Dion, Leader of the Liberal Party. “Martha, through her
tireless traveling of our great country, first as a leadership candidate and now
in her role as Platform Outreach Chair for the Liberal Party, has come to
represent Liberal renewal.”
Martha Hall Findlay ran a widely praised campaign for the Leadership of the
Liberal Party. Since December, she has acted as the Platform Outreach Chair for
the Party, consulting with Canadians on what they would like to see in the
Party’s upcoming election platform. She will continue in this role until the
next federal election.
"Our riding association overwhelmingly passed a motion requesting that Mr.
Dion appoint Martha as our candidate,” said Willowdale Federal Liberal Riding
Association President Joanne Pratt. “We are fortunate to have a high quality
candidate like Martha running under the leadership of Mr. Dion in Willowdale.”
she added. “The Willowdale Liberal Riding Association is a superbly organized
and dedicated group of Liberals and the combination of the two will make a great
team.”
”Jim Peterson has represented both Willowdale and Canada as an outstanding
Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister almost continually since 1980. His
distinguished parliamentary career is a terrific model for all. I am honoured
and thrilled to have such wonderful support from the riding association and from
both Jim and Heather Peterson,” said newly appointed candidate Martha Hall
Findlay.
