In 2006, Martha Hall Findlay was a candidate for
the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada.
In 2007, Martha Hall Findlay started a new role
as the Platform Outreach Chair for the Liberal Party of
Canada and has started a cross-country tour listening to
Canadians.
She is the Liberal candidate for the Toronto
riding of Willowdale. |

Community
Martha has extensive non-profit and volunteer
experience, having served as a Director and Executive with various
community organizations and ratepayer associations, including CKUA
Radio in Alberta; The Couchiching Institute on Public Affairs
and the Georgian Bay Association.
She has recently served as Vice President, Policy of
the Ontario Women’s Liberal Commission, and is an active participant
in Equal Voice, a multi-partisan organization dedicated to promoting
more women in politics.
In her youth, Martha was a competitive skier, overall silver
medallist in the Canadian Championships in 1976. She was named to
the Canadian National Training Squad before retiring and pursuing
her formal education. Martha then supported herself through
university working as a waitress, in construction (primarily as a
carpenter) and coaching young ski racers.
Martha’s other policy work has included governance of non-profit
organizations; water issues and The Great Lakes; and supporting
efforts toward research, development and commercialization of new,
alternative energy production and conservation technologies (having
been a solar power user for many years).
Hall Findlay was overall silver medalist in the 1976
Canadian Ski Championship, and was named to the national training
squad before retiring from competition to concentrate on her
education. |

Career
Martha is a successful and well-respected lawyer,
businesswoman and entrepreneur. She founded The General Counsel
Group, management and legal consultants since 1997, and has worked
primarily in the high-tech and telecommunications fields, in both
Canada and Europe.
Prior to forming The General Counsel Group, Martha
was:
Vice President, Corporate Development and General Counsel of The
Rider Group;
General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Mobility Canada and
corporate counsel for the BellMobility group of companies;
Lawyer with the international law firm of Baker & McKenzie (in
Toronto), practising international corporate and commercial law;
Martha graduated in international relations from the
University of Toronto, and in law from Osgoode Hall Law School at
York University. Hall Findlay also co-owned and operated two retail
stores while completing law school. |
